Trisong Detsen

King Trisong Detsen (742-797) is the thirty-seventh king of the ancient Tubo Dynasty and one of the main disciples of Guru Rinpoche. It was due to his efforts that the great masters Shantarakshita and Guru Rinpoche came from India and established Buddhism firmly on Tibetan Plateau. King Trisong Detsen ordered the translation of all Buddhist Dharma Texts into Tibetan. Padmasambhava, Shantaraksita, 108 translators, and 25 of Padmasambhava's nearest disciples worked for many years. The translations from this period formed the base for the large scriptural transmission of Dharma teachings into Tibetan plateau.
