Khenchen Sherab Zangpo was born in Derge of Kham in 1963. He received his Buddhist education at a very young age from several accomplished masters in the region.

At age 13, he went to Derge’s Tashi Monastery, a branch of Kathog Monastery and studied there under abbot Tulku Genning’s tutelage. Tulku Genning was also a principle teacher, one of the five golden-seat lamas at Kathog Monastery. Unfortunately, Tulku Genning passed way in 1979, at the age of 42. Khenchen then left Tashi Monastey and followed other teachers nearby.  At 17 Khenchen received the instructions from Dzogchen master Khenpo Tsewang Jigme on the preliminary and main practices of Dzogchen.

In 1984, at age 21, Khenchen Sherab Zanpo became a close student of H.H. Jigme Phunstok Rinpoche at Larung Gar. He achieved the degree of Khenpo in 1987.

Thereafter Khenchen Sherab Zanpo started to teach at the college, preaching Dharma of both Exoteric and Esoteric, including the Five Great Mahayana Texts and the Great Web of Magical Illusion. As one of the disciples that His Holiness trusted most and was close to, Khenchen also assisted His Holiness to manage all kinds of things for Larung Gar, making every effort to enhance the college’s development and the four-fold assemblies’ study and practice.

Khenchen also established the Tashi Triling Retreat Center and subsequently its affiliated nursing home and charity hospital near his birthplace at Derge. He also supported many temples in the region.

Apart from his Dharma activities in the Tibetan region, Khenchen Sherab Zangpo teaches Buddhist Dharma, guides group practices and promotes animal lifesaving in both China and overseas. He is also the author of several acclaimed Buddhism books.
