Passing on Love

We all need love. Giving out love arouses our potential of wisdom and compassion, bringing more benefits in a greater sense. The Amitofo Care Center (ACC) really exemplifies this vision, changing lives of orphans in Africa. On Khenpo Sodargye’s first visit to Africa, he addresses his thoughtful teachings to ACC students and volunteers.

Speech by Khenpo Sodargye

Why Helping Others Can Help Yourself?

Excerpt 1: Joining the “Big Heart” Mission of “Monk Daddy”

I sincerely think that all of you, the dedicated volunteers from mainland China, Taiwan and local regions, are making such a meaningful contribution in supporting these orphans. The driving force of your aspiration came from “Monk Daddy”, Venerable Hui Li, who leads this mission. Had he not started out by making great compassionate vows, the fate of these children would have been entirely different.

Excerpt 2 : Bodhisattvas at the Amitofo Care Centre

Raising kids and cultivating their hearts is a mission easily said than done, especially in such a place of deserted wilderness, fierce wind, and scarce resource. All of the teachers and volunteers who have been persistently working here truly exemplify the way of the Bodhisattva.

Excerpt 3: The Wisdom of Harmonization and Altruism

We must learn how to get along with people. This involves communicating, understanding, and accepting one another. On this basis, we cultivate altruistic thoughts and benefit others. If we are always self-centered and intolerant we may meet difficulties in all walks of our lives.

Excerpt 4: Why Helping Others Can Help Yourself?

Our inner potential and wisdom can be awakened in various ways. Experiencing difficulties and living with hardship can force us to generate more compassion and ignite unprecedented wisdom. Although it seems that the volunteers and teachers working here are giving out by helping others, they are probably receiving much more in return. That is to say, through the process of benefiting others we also get to train and improve ourselves, and surprisingly obtain much more “personal wealth”.

Excerpt 5: The Benefit of Learning Dharma

Studying and practicing Dharma will bring you inner peace and happiness. When facing difficulties in life you can apply your insight on karmic law and impermanence or think of the blessings of the Three Jewels, and then your afflictions and agonies will be pacified. In fact, any other faith will do likewise, since respect, peace, and care for all human beings are the common denominators of all religions.

“No matter what color you are or which corner of the world you are from, we all need love! Love will bloom everywhere in the world, provided that we spread and share it.”
