The Second World Youth Buddhist Symposium

The Second World Youth Buddhist Symposium was held in Hong Kong, and invited many famous Dharma teachers from Buddhist universities as well as experts and scholars from universities as our honoured guests, with about 383 attendees from 236 universities of more than ten countries including China, the USA, Britain, Germany, Singapore and New Zealand.

Focusing on the three themes, the participants engaged in lively discussions. They reached an agreement that Buddhism is not in conflict with science and, that, in fact, Buddhism is beneficial for scientific research. They also concluded that Tibetan Buddhism has greatly contributed to the modern world. These discussions inspired the participants to gain a clear and truthful view of Buddhism; clarified some people’s misunderstanding of Tibetan Buddhism; played a positive role in promoting the integration between Buddhism and science (and education); as well as the healthy development of young people’s minds and the harmony of society.

During the symposium, Khenpo Sodargye Rinpoche and participants paid a respectful visit to the statue of Tian Tan Buddha at Lantau Island, enjoyed vegetarian food at Po Lin Monastery, and held a life release ceremony at Muyu Peak.
