The Third World Youth Buddhist Symposium

The Third World Youth Buddhist Symposium attracted 623 participants from 13 countries—including the USA, Britain, Germany, Netherlands, Australia, India—and 255 universities and 8 religions, including Buddhism, Catholicism, Islam, and Taoism.

In the Interfaith Dialogue, five scholars from five mainstream worldwide religions communicated face-to-face, displayed an understanding of and the guidance for modern society according to their respective faith in their religions. During the Keynote Speech, the university professors and scholars from Hong Kong, USA, India, and Britain discussed, from different angles, the profound influence of Buddhism on science, history, art and the human mind; they also elaborated on the topic of sustainable development. Additionally, there were in-depth questions and answers in the different, assigned groups; there was a speech contest; and there was meditation guided by Dharma teachers from Larung Gar Five Sciences Buddhist Academy.

After the symposium, Khenpo Sodargye Rinpoche said, “The future belongs to the youth; it’s very important for them to have the right view; the system of study and practice of Tibetan Buddhism is especially suitable for young people and intellectuals.”

Mainstream media such as the Phoenix Hong Kong Channel made special reports on the symposium, and attracted considerable attentions from the public.
